‘My Cat Is A Thief’: Cat Mom Posts Sign In Front Yard To Return Kitty’s Stolen Items To Neighbors

If you live in Beaverton, Oregon and noticed your work gloves have gone missing recently, you may be the victim of a cat burglar. Cat mom Kate Felmet knows exactly who the culprit is. It’s her mischievous kitty, Esme!

Esme loves bringing home her “found” items, which often belong to neighbors in the area. She amassed such a hoard of stolen property, mostly gloves, masks, and random bits of fabric, that her cat mom had to put a sign on her lawn exposing the furry thief.

Kate’s sign, seen above, reads “My cat is a thief/ Please take these items if they are yours,” and sits next to a clothesline where she hung up the stolen gloves and other goods that Esme brought home. Since the sign went up, many items have indeed returned to their rightful owners.

Esme may never give up her life of crime, but who could stay mad at such a cute kitty? Still, if you have a cat at home who can’t stop stealing, it could be because they feel bored. Try giving your feline their own toys to play with, and you may reduce boredom and unwanted behavior. Here are a few tips!

Tips For Picking The Best Cat Toys

Cat toys aren’t all fun and games for your cat; whether elaborate or simple, toys give your cat exercise, mental stimulation, a chance to act on hunting instincts, and a way to bond with you. Here are a few tips for picking out cat toys.

  • Pick toys that are safe. Cats should never be left alone with a toy that includes loose string or yarn. Once ingested, string or yarn can lead to serious, even deadly, problems in the digestive tract.
  • Make your own cat toys. You can find plenty of items around the house that make safe and fun toys for your cat, like a plain, crinkly, brown paper bag or an empty box.
  • Interactive cat toys will help you bond. You can join in the fun with a fishing rod, teaser wand-style toy, or laser pointer.
  • Cat toys keep your feline busy and reduce boredom. They’ll keep your cat mentally stimulated, and that can help cut down on unwanted behaviors around the house. Make sure to rotate and swap out your cat’s regular toys to keep things fresh and fun!
