Frozen-driveway cat may lose leg

A cat that was frozen to a driveway for more than 24 hours may have its left hind leg amputated. Authorities believe the feline, named Trooper, was hit by a car, after which it crawled to a residential driveway and then fell unconscious. It awoke with its legs frozen to the asphalt.

Rescue personnel freed the cat with buckets of warm water. Examining veterinarians discovered Trooper had three pelvic fractures and nerve damage. He was also so thoroughly frozen that medical personnel initially could not find a pulse.
