Hidden Talent Helps Florida Shelter Kitten Find Forever Home

Last week, SPCA Florida shared a video on its Facebook page showcasing one of its shelter kittens’ hidden talent, which eventually got him adopted. The kitty named Firecracker somehow learned how to outsmart his kennel’s locking mechanism. After finding him out on the loose while the rest of their felines were secured, shelter staff decided to catch him in the act. The video left everyone surprised yet impressed, including Firecracker’s new owner, who decided to adopt him the following day.

Shelter kitten finds forever home due to hidden talent of escaping kennels expertly

On July 19, SPCA Florida uploaded a video of a tabby kitty’s impressive feat of escaping his kennel without human assistance. It started with the staff members finding him out and about while the rest were secure in their kennels. While the situation was puzzling, the members simply placed him back where he should have been.

It wasn’t until the shelter staff sat down for a chat that they realized each of them had found the feline out and about on different occasions. This made them realize it had happened way too often for it to be a mere coincidence. Finally, one of them decided it was time to try and capture what Firecracker was up to in a video.

The shelter kitten’s hidden talent was that he had figured out how to open the kennel’s locking mechanism. In the video, he can be seen sneaking his paw out to lift and slide out the lock. SPCA Florida public media director Randa Richter told The Dodo, “He’s our first cat to have ever done that…Everyone was just so surprised and laughing, knowing he’s such a smart kitten.”

The staff members decided to share the video online. Firecracker’s new owner was also highly impressed with the shelter kitten’s hidden talent. She decided to provide him with a forever home and adopted the kitty the next morning.

Moreover, she shared a photo of him on July 22 under SPCA Florida’s post. The pet parent noted that Firecracker is “awesome.” He is currently staying in her bathroom until she introduces him to his feline sibling.
