  • A cat can jump approximately five to seven times their height.
  • When cats leap, they can lengthen their bodies by eleven percent.
  • Cats may crouch and fidget before a jump. This is because they’re testing the surface that they’re jumping from to make sure it’s stable, judging how far they’ll have to jump, and estimating how much force it will take to make a perfect leap.
  • Cats use the laws of angular momentum to twist their bodies in mid-air, which is why they’re so good at landing on their feet after a jump.
  • As cats land from a jump, their legs extend under their bodies and act as natural shock absorbers. They also arch their backs to reduce the force of impact, leading to a nice, safe landing. Well, most of the time.
  • The Guinness World Record for the longest jump by a cat belongs to Waffle the Warrior Cat from California who jumped an astounding seven feet (213.36 cm)!
  • You can help your cat jump higher by providing them with cat trees and playing with wand toys. These will encourage your cat to jump and strengthen their muscles, just like when humans train for the high jump! Just remember that not all cats like to jump around a lot, so make sure you don’t force your cat to do it if they don’t want to.
